The primary purpose of a Wattbike test is to set your heart rate and power training zones, monitor changes in fitness and provide information about the effectiveness of your training workouts using scientific, comparable and reliable measures.

In addition the consistent and reliable data output from a Wattbike test is available to track direct changes in your performance over specific distances and durations.

For those of you who are serious about your training tests can be conducted at regular intervals to provide a comparison and measure improvement of your power, endurance, speed and pedal efficiency. This also enables you to determine if your training program is working and what areas you need to target to improve.DSC00477


Your Personalised Fitness Assessment 

The fitness Assessment will take approximately 1 hour allowing for bike set-up, warm up and cooling down period. The specific tests are chosen for you depending on your specific goals, training plan and discipline. Tests will include:

  • Estimation of VO2 max
  • Maximum minute power
  • Maximum heart rate
  • Power to weight ratio
  • Analysis of pedal stroke


Cost: €85 Non members €65 Members

Fitness Assessment plus one follow up within 3 months – €150 Non Members €110 Members

What you need to bring to each session

  • Training towel
  • Water Bottle
  • Cycling shoes with either “Look” or “Shimano SPD” cleats. If you do not have either of these then just wear joggers or bring your own pedals and cycling shoes.
  • Do NOT do a hard training session the day before the test
  • All fitness testing will be conducted in the Irish Cycling Academy headquarters, Trim Co. Meath and by appointment only.

NOTE: Do not do a test if you are unwell or are fatigued. Do NOT eat anything 2 hours prior to the test!
